What's Eating Gilbert Grape
What's Eating Gilbert Grape was released into theaters on December 19th, 1993. Filming locations include Lockhart, Manor and Pflugerville, Tx. It was directed by Lasse Hallstrom. It stars a young Leonardo Dicaprio as Arnie Grape, who was just two years removed from being in Critters 3. Dicaprio was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his part in the film. Johnny Depp, who was already a bonafide star by this point, played the lead of Gilbert Grape. The score was done by Bjorn Isfalt and Alan Parker. The films first DVD release was on November 17th, 2001.

The house is no longer there. It had been there since at least the early 1950's. Two of the sheds were standing until 2017. At the time of my visit, no more structures remained at the location. However, the trees on the property are still recognizable, as is the fence at the entrance.

Carver house - 600 S. Railroad Ave. Pflugerville, Tx. 78660
The 2,241 square foot house was built in 1962. The water tower seen in the distance looks almost identical to the one Arnie is seen climbing, but in reality, that water tower is over ten miles away, in Manor.

Courthouse - 110 S. Main St. Lockhart, Tx. 78644
(Caldwell County Courthouse)
The courthouse was designed by architect Alfred Giles and constructed in 1894. The clock tower houses a four-faced Seth Thomas Clock Company clock and a 900-pound bell. It was registered as a Texas Historic Landmark in 1976. On January 3rd, 1978 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. The roadblock scene from The Faculty, was also filmed in the Lockhart town square.
