Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn
Evil Dead 2 was released into theaters on March 15th, 1987. Filming locations include Lilesville and Wadesboro, NC. It was directed by Sam Raimi, just as the preceding installment (The Evil Dead) in 1981 and the succeeding installment (Army of Darkness) in 1992 were. Bruce Campbell returned to reprise his role of Ashley J. Williams. Henrietta was played by Ted Raimi, little brother of director Sam Raimi. At the end of each day's shoot, whenever his full body latex suit was removed, the sweat would just poor out the bottom onto the floor. The score was done by Joseph LoDuca. The films first DVD release was on August 4th, 1998.
Opening - Blue Ridge Parkway North Carolina
(Fryingpan Tunnel)
The camera is exiting out the south side of the tunnel. The 275 foot tunnel was constructed in 1930. The elevation of this location is over 4,800 feet. There are twenty-six total tunnels along the 469 mile parkway. The parkway also provides some beautiful views of the surrounding Appalachian Mountains.

Cabin (interior) - S. Main St. and J.R. Faison St. Wadesboro, NC. 28170
(J.R. Faison Junior High School, gymnasium)
Sets for the cabin, cellar and work shed interiors were built inside the gymnasium. The gym has been there since at least the mid 50's. In recent years, it's been used as a storage building. At the time of my visit, it was in complete derelict. Garbage and junk filled the structure from wall to wall, so much so that there's not even a clear walking path through all of the clutter. The roof has gaping holes as well. I seriously doubt that anything more will come of the building and it's all but certain to be left to rot away.

For the cabin and work shed exteriors, actual structures were constructed on private property. As a matter of fact, it's the same property that was used for portions of the 1985 film, The Color Purple, directed by Steven Spielberg. The property is located at 2323 Diggs Rd. Wadesboro, NC. 28170. However, the remains of the cabin and work shed were reportedly moved from the property by fellow Evil Dead 2 fans in 2016, as the area was set to be cleared.
Airport - 2980 Airport Rd. Wadesboro, NC. 28170
(Anson County Airport)
The airport has been in operation since at least the 60's.

Ending - Clark Mountain Rd. Lilesville, NC. 28091
(Bonsal Ballast Pits)
The Bonsal area is quite extensive and this is the best match I could find to the film. The castle was a fascade, constructed from plywood, placed on a hill overlooking the area.
